The Akai GXC-39D cassette deck is like a piece of furniture, a brilliant deck from 1976 with a surprisingly good sound. The design is super solid and the sound is surprisingly good, even today.
It’s a top-loading cassette deck with GX head. The audio head contains glass and ferrite instead of the soft iron that was common at the time, making it more resistant to wear. The first two letters of the name GXD-39D are derived from ‘Glass & X’tal Ferrite Head’.
Technical highlights include a limiter, which automatically prevents overdrive when recording, a memory button that stops the tape at zero when rewinding and with a Dolby Noise Reduction system. The deck is also equipped with a full-release auto-stop mechanism and a tape running indicator lamp.
The device kept in very good condition as you can see the pictures. We changed the belts, the motor capacitor and the recording volume knobs. The deck is adjusted and calibrated.
